What Is Alcohol Abuse?
Do people abuse alcohol or it only applies to other drugs such as cocaine or heroin? This is the question that many people tend to ask but with no avail. Alcohol Abuse is not the consumption of alcohol because you can take alcohol but for the right quantity only. Any activity after too much consumption of alcohol is what is called Alcohol Abuse. However, there are very many definitions for this technology due to the various studies conducted. According to psychiatrists, it is a state which arises due to taking substances like alcohol, resulting to negative behavior.
Clinics have another dimension to the existing definitions and said that all the symptoms can be present to any addict. This is regardless of whether you have or have not withdrawn from dependency to alcohol. Alcoholism is the other terminology that is used to mean the same thing as Alcohol Abuse. This is despite the fact that abuse and alcoholism are not synonyms.
If the person who is drinking alcohol cannot control his consumption, it is most likely that the person will lose control of how he behaves. This kind of people cannot go on their businesses without taking alcohol first. This results into troubled marriages, poor performance in the work place or even absenteeism. Gradually, these people become withdrawn.
Alcohol abuse can easily lead to addiction. This addiction can cause a lot of conflicts if the person’s behavior in public is offensive. This brings a lot of trouble with the law keepers.
Alcohol consumption leads to alcoholism, in other words dependency. A person who consumes alcohol in his daily life, becomes addicted to alcohol and cannot stop drinking. In this way he becomes dependent on the alcohol. One can observe the symptoms of dependency, if the person cannot make in throughout the day without drinking. He finds it very difficult to withdraw from drinking. If one stops drinking the symptoms developed are sweating, stomach pain uneasiness etc.
It should however be noticed that not all consumption of alcohol leads to or can be termed as Alcohol Abuse. There is no standard gauge used to measure alcoholism and what is not alcoholism, rather it is the unrestrained limit of consumption that leads one to Alcohol Abuse.
A lot of studies have concluded that the habit is developed based on the genetic and environmental conditions of an individual. But it has been proved that not all people who have alcohol problem in the family develop the habit of drinking. And people who have no alcohol contact develop the habit of drinking and become addicted to the drink.
There are many therapies which can revive a person from alcoholism. Lot of books suggests methods as to how to stop drinking. There are lot of group meetings like Alcohol Anonymous who bring such kind of people together and practice many theories, and discussions to stop alcoholism. Studies have also suggested that finding of a mentor for an addicted person has always resulted positive. The addicted is like a lost child who has to be shown the right path. Counseling has also proved to be a right method of treatment. Proper understanding leads to positive results. The core reason as to why a person resorted to alcoholism should be found out to treat from the root. The major reason as to why a person resorts to drinking has proved to be personal life failures.
However, the treatment that is needed for alcohol abuse should be regular, and not a one time trial. There are a lot of options to choose from once you make up your mind to quit drinking alcohol.
